The Kids Are Back

About 4:30 this morning the mamma and four kits showed up. They looked totally bushed and they came in from the south which is the direction of that creek that I mentioned. They ate some and drank some and where gone in about an hour. There was no ratting around or playing in the water. At first light they headed off the north to their regular daytime hideout.
They were back tonight right after sunset which was very early for them. Usually it’s well after midnight before they come around. They waded in the pool for a few minutes then hit the chow line in the big cat house. After a couple hours of good eats,  pool play and occasional naps, they took off again. I imagine they’ll back later tonight. It’s sure good to have them home.

And Then They Were Gone

Strangely enough, the raccoons haven’t showed up for the last two nights and it doesn’t look like they’re going to show up tonight. It’s been hotter than blazes for the last week so maybe they moved on to the creek that’s a couple of miles away. I’ll let you know if they come back.

And Then There Were Five

Things got interesting here a little bit ago. I’ve had a young raccoon eating dinner on my deck for the last few months. I figured he was one the babies from last year. Well it turns out that he is a she and she just showed up with four little kits. She’s trying to get them to go into the big cat house where all the bowls of food are. She hasn’t had much success. It made me think of trying to herd cats. They all look healthy and the cats haven’t had any problems with the mom so it should all be OK.
